SUP spot Oortkatensee near Hamburg

The SUP spot Oortkatensee (Hohendeicher See) near Bergedorf is comfortably located on the dyke and is a good spot for beginners to learn stand-up paddling or windsurfing. There is a large surf school on site, with hire, courses, catering and a large surf shop.

Another new feature is that you can now learn to wingfoil here, with courses on offer and hire.

The material is very high quality and the advice is professional. You can test different boards or, in the case of windsurfing, sails before deciding on a purchase.

It is easy to park behind the dyke road, or in a public car park and also at the surf school (at least if you hire equipment there). The lake is not particularly large, but it is ideal for learning and you can be at the lake from the city centre in 25-30 minutes by car.

There is also a kiosk right by the lake for a quick top-up in between.

If you like, you can get to the lake comfortably by bike without any inclines. There is also a bus stop on site.

If you want to go further in surfing, it's worth making a detour to the sunny island of Fehmarn, to the Surfspot Wulfener Halswhere the 2nd surf school is run and fun surf camps with overnight stays are often organised in summer.
