Test report on the Sea Lion 10.6 SUP board from AKD

Buying your first SUP board isn't that easy with so many products on the market.
After many comparisons, the choice fell on a SUP board from the AKD series. I found it positive that this manufacturer has been active in professional plastic processing for many years. After all, anyone who manufactures children's inflatables that have to withstand enormous loads surely also understands the bonding technology, which has to be resistant to salt water and tolerate high temperatures caused by sunlight. And so it was!

I've been using the Sea Lion 10.6 for two years now and the Sea Star 10.8 as a replacement board with a similar design, only slightly larger, which I usually use for visits.

The SUP boards from AKDare ideal for getting started with stand up paddling and are extremely well made.

After 2 seasons, whereby we also ride in winter, the board has experienced a lot of sand, wind, high temperatures and the first small waves, neither an adhesive seam has come loose and there is no other material fatigue to be seen. In addition, the purchase price is really low, unfortunately the boards are currently completely sold out in December 2023.

Processing the AKD boards

The wide and stable design is perfect for beginners and can also be used as a yoga SUP board or for fishing.

At 320x86x15cm and 337 litres, it carries even very heavy surfers with ease. The optimum load capacity is approx. 40-160 kg, making it suitable for 1-2 adults with a child or dog to paddle comfortably on the water together. In combination with the seat and double paddle, it can be used as a kayak.

The Sea Lion can be quickly converted into a kayak thanks to the eyelets already attached; the kayak seat must be purchased separately.

It comes with a large rucksack, a pump, a leash, a fin and a paddle that can be plugged together.

The sturdy glued pad on the board deck is particularly successful and you can comfortably stand on it for many hours, which is also ideal for yoga as the pad is very non-slip.
